Homeopathic remedies are classified into three levels of potencies. X, C, and M refer to 10, 100 and 1.000 in terms of the amount of dilution. The confusing and amazing aspect of Homeopathy is that the C is more potent than X even though it was diluted into lesser concentration. The M classification is very potent and is usually prescribed by the Homeopathic physician.

The argument is that the homeopathic remedies with the highest dilution can infiltrate the cellular level of the organ a lot faster and easier thus starting the detoxification process of the body much sooner compare to the remedies with the lower dilution levels.

Homeopathic remedy begins with a part of the original substance dissolved in the alcohol, is called the mother tincture. The mother tincture is then diluted many times. After each dilution the solution is shaken or ‘succussed’, this shaking activates the remedy. The solution is then made into pills, powders, tinctures or creams. 1X potency is created by mixing 1 part of the mother tincture and 9 parts alcohol or distilled water. In each successive number (increasing the potency 2X, 3X, 6X), 1 part is taken from the previous potency and diluted according to the new potency.

Example: A 3X remedy (10x10x10=1000) has one part of the 2X remedy to 999 parts of alcohol or distilled water.

How to Take Remedies

The remedies should be kept in cool, dark place. Be careful not to touch the tablets when taking them, pour the tablets into the cap and then into your mouth, allowing them to dissolve under your tongue.

There are just few guidelines to consider when using Homeopathy. Avoid eating anything 30 minutes before or after taking the remedy. If you are experiencing an aggravation of your symptoms after the homeopathic remedies, you can neutralize them by taking antidotes (drink a cup of coffee for example). An emotional or a physical shock can also block a remedy.

Reaction to homeopathic medicine or predictable effects of homeopathic medicine

In many cases when we give homeopathic medicine in our patients, we expect some type of reaction will occur sooner or later, either in the first set of homeopathic medicine or in the second set of homeopathic treatments, depending on how strong the patient’s organism is, their age, how long they have had the disease, etc.

In many cases the original symptoms increase, for example: if you have a pain in your back, you will get more pain in your back; if you have pain in your stomach, you will get more pain in your stomach; if you have a chronic cough, you will get more coughing; if you have asthma, you will get an increase of asthma; if you have chronic constipation, you will get more constipation – whatever you have will increase in the first step of homeopathic treatment. In the second step, the body starts to move towards balance and usually our patients get much better.

What happens to cause these reactions that sometimes cause patients to get really scared and stop taking homeopathic medicine in mid-treatment? The answer is very simple. We expect these types of reactions, and this is why we call them predictable reactions. These are not side effects of the medicine, because homeopathic medicine cannot make any conditions worse. They do not offer any danger because they are made of natural herbs and minerals and are used in very high dilutions. We expect these reactions because in many cases when people have chronic illnesses, it means their body system is not able to fight their disease through to the end, but often somewhere in the middle of the process, the body comes to some type of balance.

The immune system is not able to cure itself; the body system is not able to cure itself, and the disease is not able to progress beyond a certain point. In this middle position people sometimes suffer chronic illnesses for years without being able to get any better and yet not getting any worse. Eventually, it will either get slowly worse or better because the body is unable to stay in the middle position forever. So, when we give homeopathic medicine to system, it will make the whole body stronger and start to push toxins out of the body.

The result of this detoxification and the energetic changes when the system suddenly wakes up to this chronic condition, and the body starts to react to the condition (pain in the back, etc.) and create the necessary changes to fix the problem, is an initial worsening of the symptoms. The area of the condition becomes the focus of attention in an effort to bring about a healing effect.

Predictable worsening of the symptoms is the result of energetic changes in the body, the result of the cleansing effect of the treatment, and the result of a system retracing its medical history to correct previous conditions. For example, the patient may currently have asthma, but five years ago may have had arthritis in the knee and ten years ago the person may have had chronic headaches. So, first the asthma systems may come up and later on the arthritis systems may come forth.

After the asthma is cured, in some period of time, chronic pain in the knee, which was sitting inside the person, is reactivated and after continuation of the treatment, this condition will subside, and other previous symptoms may occur. So, basically, we can see the system can recreate the same complaints as though we are watching a videotape backwards. Of course, these changes will take time and will not happen right away in the first treatment, but we do know the fact when people have a strong body and strong healing energy in the system, they will get worse in the beginning and will get better with further treatment.

This is an excellent reaction because the system is removing the root of the problem and, therefore, eliminating the condition from the body. This differs from taking traditional medicines such as Tylenol, which masks the symptoms, but the disease is still inside, continues to grow, and one day comes back again even stronger.

This predictable worsening of symptoms in homeopathic medicine usually appears for less than a week and then disappears by itself. If the symptoms become too strong, we can prescribe other homeopathic remedies to relieve them, if necessary. Or we can provide acupressure, acupuncture, or some other alternative treatment to soften the symptoms.
